Hey there, I'm Nikkita, the one steering the ship (well, the caravan) at Little Frankie's Van. My journey into this coffee adventure started in a pretty non-traditional way.
I spent over 7 years in the wild and wonderful world of hospitality, mixing drinks, serving food, and getting to know the ropes. And to add to the mix, I even studied travel and tourism with William Angliss.
But the real turning point came in 2020. Yep, that unforgettable year when COVID-19 decided to shake things up. I landed a job at a local winery and restaurant, and boy, did that change things. It was there that I discovered my passion
for hospitality, wine, and of course coffee!
I wasn't just your average coffee drinker. I was that person behind the coffee machine, experimenting with coffee recipes, and making sure the whole crew had their caffeine fix. That's when I knew there was something brewing.
Fast forward to mid-2022. I was driving home from work, and it hit me like a lightning bolt—a coffee shop was my dream, but a traditional brick-and-mortar one? Not in the cards.
So, I did what any coffee lover on a mission would do. I scoured the internet and found a vintage caravan that needed some TLC. That's how Little Frankie's Van was born.
I'm committed to sustainability, striving to reduce waste both at home and with Little Frankie's Van. Mental health advocacy is another cause close to my heart, as I grapple with anxiety and depression, embracing neurodiversity.
It's proof that sometimes, all you need is a dash of passion, a heap of determination, and a sprinkle of craziness to make your dream a reality.
Little Frankie's Van was built by Franklin caravans in 1968 in Ballarat, Victoria.
Frankie started its journey traveling around Australia for many years with a nomad couple until they eventually retired. Leaving Frankie to rest and fall into disrepair with an occasional use for an odd camping trip here and there.
A year ago we purchased Frankie with a dream of opening a little café on wheels. And so our story with this vintage gem began.
We stripped and rebuilt most of the caravan dedicating over six months of weekends to renovation while balancing work and life during the week.
Renovating Frankie was a team effort, and despite none of us having prior caravan restoration experience. We dove headfirst into lots research and learning. Even building mini mock caravans and playing dolls to explore different layouts and workflows.
